1. Ski passes

Lift pass prices vary by resort - the popular resorts with lots of lifts, snow cannons & sophisticated piste bashers cost more than smaller resorts. Typical adult cost is around £120 for 6 days for a single resort (£90 child). Prices are published on the resort websites (see Links).

2. Lessons

Lessons should be pre-booked if you're going at a peak time, but otherwise you can book in resort. A web search will bring up some companies for your resort, but in France you could try ESF (French Ski School), New Generation & Oxygene. ESF tend to have large groups and mixed language lessons, so some of the newer, UK-based schools can be a better bet.

Oxygene

3. Childcare

Creches and lessons for children can easily be booked by the independent traveller, though the main British nanny ones are run by the travel groups like Mark Warner and Esprit. The resort information offices can supply a list (see links to resorts).

4. Book ski & boot hire before you go and save on in-resort prices

Skis and boots can easily be hired in resort when you get there, or you can pre-order at a discount before you go. Try a web search to shop around or try snowpack-plus.com - in France, prices start at around £50 boots & skis / £40 skis only for the week. Better quality gear obviously costs more. Skis are normally covered by winter holiday insurance (though there's ususally an excess), so the shop's insurance is worth considering.
